When did you last test your alarm?

By
I am not asking about any fire alarm you may or may not have in the workplace. I ma asking about any smoke or Carbon |Monoxide alarms you should have at home.

It should be done monthly to ensure they still work. There is a large number of alarms which are sealed. These have a 10 year battery which cannot be replaced.. These still need testing and when the battery low alarm starts beeping- which is highly annoying-they will need replacing.

At FR Fire we recommend installing alarms where the batteries can be changed and these are replaced on an annual basis. At New Year, a birthday, anniversary or other memorable date. This will ensure they will not run flat, for example, while you are on holiday.

Earlier this year, this subject hit the national news when two teenagers staying at a holiday park at Carnaby, near Bridlington North Yorkshire were found dead form suspected Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. As the investigation is ongoing, exact details are thin on the ground but it highlights the essential nature of these alarms and the importance of regular testing.

If you have any questions or concerns, give us a call and we will do our best to help.

All the above is quite apart from the weekly or monthly tests and annual services which should be carried out on your workplace fire alarms. If you need help with this or want someone to manage it for you, this is a service FR Fire can accommodate. Please connect here and get in touch so we can discuss your needs.
