Future proofing for Chemicals Manufacturers by STEM Construction

At STEM Construction we are proud of the capabilities that add value to our work. Our experience of helping sites in the chemicals sector to comply with their obligations sets us apart, enabling us to contribute much more than just civil engineering.

Work has begun at ICoNiChem in Widnes, on a major project to improve and future proof this site which produces Nickel and Cobalt chemicals for a variety of uses. The site complies with an impressive list of environmental and quality standards, including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. ICoNiChem is registered by FEMAS for supply of food grade products, and is a top tier COMAH registered facility. The COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) Regulations 1999 place a number of obligations on sites which use or store hazardous substances, aimed at minimising the likelihood and potential impact of accidents.

We’ll be undertaking demolition of some of the existing infrastructure before putting new foundations in place, then building a new steel clad structure. Our team of specialists will then improve the secondary containment bunds, incorporating access structures for the ongoing inspection, maintenance and operation of the busy production site.

STEM Construction are delighted to be on site, making a start on this comprehensive set of works. We’re looking forward to working alongside ICoNiChem to make their site even more comprehensively compliant, building a facility which is ready for the future.
