Fire and your holiday home

By
Do you own a holiday home or a property that you can use for holidays but also rent it out to other people?

Increasingly, the answer to this question is yes.

If your holiday home is a caravan, whether you rent it out or not, you are required to have a properly serviced fire extinguisher in place. This will typically be a 1kg Powder extinguisher as any and all gas appliances will use LPG.

You may see these for sale in the likes of Aldi. Purchasing one of these would be, potentially, an expensive mistake. Without correct commissioning and ongoing maintenence by a properly qualified engineer they may as well not be there.

As far as your insurance company is concerned, it doesn't exist and will result in any claim, for anything not just fire, being refused.

Worse, you or a holiday maker could find that the extinguisher doesn't work if it needed.

Talk about a squeaky bum moment.

If you own a caravan on a holiday park, the owners of the park should be able to recommend an approved contractor. Otherwise a google search will give you various options. If yopu are in the North West give FR Fire a call, we are experts in holiday home protection.
