How did you get here?
I began my journey studying digital design for fashion at University. This is where I discovered my passion for using CAD. I enrolled on a night course for AutoCAD as I was looking for more of a challenge. From this I got a job within a sheet-metal company where I used a similar programme to AutoCAD. I decided that I wanted to work within the building services industry which is where I found the opportunity to work for GLD.
Since joining the team, what have you been doing?
I joined GLD just over 3 years ago as a trainee CAD technician. During my time at GLD I have picked up numerous skills like how to complete lighting calculations, admin work such as the utility calculations and I’m now stepping more into a mechanical and electrical engineering role.
Talk to us about some of your favourite projects.
So, my building services career didn’t start until I got to GLD so I would have to say using CAD to design garments in my university course and to complete one off jobs within my previous role. My first major project at GLD was working on Chorley New Road Primary school. I worked mainly on the electrical side of things using a lot of CAD to create the drawings for the site team. When the project was completed, I also completed a site visit to make sure everything was as it should be.
My favourite project at GLD would have to be working on Cornwall Road. This was one of the bigger projects that I have worked on which I really enjoyed. I liked that it wasn’t all just fixing small issues and only making small changes. Everything went well throughout the whole process which was a bonus.
What do you like most about your job?
I have really learned a lot working at GLD and love being in a small team. We’re all really close which creates a great working environment. I would like to progress more with Revit and I’m excited to complete my electrical training and to keep learning. I just don’t want to stop!
Viktoria leaves us with how she is “enjoying the growth of the company and cannot wait to watch it continue to grow”.
