Charity Canoe Challenge returns!!
Places are open for yearly challenge
Age UK Lancashire has opened places to their Canoe Challenge as the ever-popular event returns for the 7th time. This year the charity has introduced an alternative 12-mile route alongside its regular 25-mile route to appeal to a wider audience.
The event will take place on Saturday 2nd April 2022, with participants beginning the course in Preston and finish in Lancaster.
Marketing Manager, David Ward said: “We always look forward to the Canoe Challenge and are grateful to have the opportunity to put the event on for another year. Speaking from personal experience the course itself is very challenging but rewarding at the same time, as it gives you a strong sense of achievement and is for a good cause.”
With limited places available and a strong public interest, people who wish to participate are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to secure a place. Teams of 2 people at a minimum are required and more than 2 people per canoe are welcome.
David Ward added: “This is a great activity to get involved in with your friends, family or even work colleagues. We have also arranged a free practice session on Saturday 12th March to prepare participants for the challenge. All equipment will be provided for the practice and the event, and a support team will be stationed along the route for extra support”.
There is no entry fee for the event each, but participant is asked to raise a minimum of £150 for the charity. People will be supported to set up fundraising pages and provided with top tips to achieve their target. As places are given out on a first-come basis, registering as soon as possible is recommended to avoid disappointment.
The money raised on the day stays local in Lancashire and goes back to Age UK Lancashire to help fund services and projects.
Full details and a registration form can be found in the ‘Activities and Events’ section of their website at www.ageuklancs.org.uk or email fundraising@ageuklancs.org.uk
