September 8th has been set aside every year since 1967 to highlight the importance of literacy for people and societies worldwide.

Here at Highway Care, we have been doing our bit to encourage reading in children through our involvement in the Cones Books initiative. Cones and the Cone Laying Machine used our Falcon 100 Automated Cone Laying Machine (#ACLM) as its inspiration for a great children’s story, which also educates them about road safety and the varied jobs available to them in our industry.

We’ve handed copies out to children and teachers in local schools, and to parents at events and exhibitions. If you haven’t already got a copy and would like one to share the joy of reading with the children in your life, make sure you come to our stand #D39 at Highways UK in October, where we'll have more to give away.

According to recent figures from UNESCO, at least 739 million youth and adults worldwide still lack basic literacy skills – helping to make reading fun for a new generation is a great addition to our social value commitment.
