Cost of Living Crisis for Charities

By

I recently had the opportunity of chatting with Vanessa Feltz on Radio 2 about the impact of the cost-of-living crisis on charities, from the perspective of Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity (YBTC).

With household budgets squeezed, the Charity's Aid Foundation have found that 1 in 8 people who routinely give to charity are needing to review and cut back on how much they can give. Easy Fundraising polled 1500 charities and found that 1 in 5 are severely worried about the donation cuts and may not be able to function by the end of the year as a result. This also coincides with increased demands on charities due to the cost-of-living crisis.

YBTC’s fundraising income is down by 50% but the demand for our support has increased by 200%. As a result, we've had to look at our operations to reduce internal costs where possible and maximise the use of volunteers so we can continue to deliver our services.

There are still ways that you can continue to support charities during the crisis.

  1. Keep donating whatever you can, however small, making sure donations are tagged for Gift Aid - every little helps!

  2. Volunteer your time whether it's direct with a charity or fundraising

  3. At YBTC we have seen sales rise in our shops during the crisis, so donations of clothes, homeware and other goods will be incredibly useful for charities who have shops.

It all makes a difference!
