Understanding Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIAs)

By
LVIAs play a crucial role in the planning process, assessing the potential impact that new developments may have on the surrounding landscape.

Whether it's determining the optimal site for a new project or identifying the least disruptive area within an existing location, LVIAs help ensure that proposed developments are sustainable and considerate of the environment.

Often required by local authorities, LVIAs are conducted by impartial professionals in accordance with the strict standards of the Guide to Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (GLVIA 4).

Although they are commissioned by the developer, LVIA findings are always independent and transparent, providing valuable insight to help protect landscapes from unnecessary visual harm.

While professional judgement is involved, two chartered landscape architects are likely to arrive at similar conclusions when assessing the same site, ensuring consistency and fairness in the process.
