Remember to Check Your Bonfire for Hedgehogs!

By
As the nights draw in and we get ready for bonfire season, let's take a moment to think of the small creatures that might be hiding in our woodpiles. Hedgehogs often nest in piles of leaves, logs, and garden debris to keep warm and secure – which means they might unknowingly end up inside bonfires waiting to be lit.

To help keep hedgehogs and other wildlife safe, here are a few steps you can follow:

🔎Check – Before lighting, gently move any logs or leaves to ensure no animals are taking shelter inside.
🍂Rebuild – If you can, try building your bonfire on the same day you plan to light it, reducing the chance of any wildlife moving in.
🔦Use a Torch – Shine a torch or flashlight to check for movement or signs of wildlife before lighting up.

By following these steps, we can make bonfire season safer for everyone – including our hedgehog friends!

Enjoy the festivities, stay safe, and remember to check your bonfire before lighting it!
