PANDA Plumbing and Heating was a concept created by 2 friends (Paul and Anthony) as a part time business to supplement our income.
Written as P and A, Anthony's young daughter thought it said "Panda" and so the name stuck.
The branding has worked well, people remember it.
In January 2018 I chose to grow PANDA as a full time business and in March 2018 we incorporated as a Limited Company.
With a 15 year old van and not a lot more, and with Anthony still in full-time employment, I set out to grow a brand on an established base of recommendations and referrals.
In August 2019 I joined BNI. Since then our growth has accelerated.
I got myself a new van and had it smartly signwritten which gave me great exposure and plenty of comments.
Just as we were going into "Lockdown", at the beginning of March this year I recruited a full-time engineer to take over the domestic work and lighten my load.
Now I have chance to work ON the business as well as IN the business.
Just 2 weeks ago we employed an apprentice.
As it happens, Jack's GCSE grades weren't quite good enough for him to be accepted by college for an apprenticeship but we have agreed for him to attend college on a "Fast-track" course to improve is skills and we are keeping him in employment too.
Jack's attitude to his work is exemplary and we are happy to work with him to achieve his goal of being a successful and highly skilled heating engineer.
So what for the future?
We continue to grow through recommendations and referrals and so we are now looking to recruit another skilled engineer to work with us.
With the business model we have set out, I believe we can offer our engineers a fantastic career opportunity. As we grow, so will they. As we take on more engineers the opportunity will come to take on more apprentices and investment in their future.
It may sound like I've had an easy time of things but I can assure you it has been a rough ride.
With no support through Covid-19, my faith and belief in myself and the business drives us through to better things and a brighter future.
