I don’t often feel genuinely sad to see a tree come down but I do on this occasion.

 

A very large Ash across the road is being removed. From a professional standpoint, I understand the reasoning: it has outgrown its space, sits too close to the houses, and previous pollarding has led to decay. Logically, it is the right decision.

 

And yet it has been such a defining presence in the streetscape sheltering birds from crows to long-tailed tits, the occasional squirrel, and countless insects.

 

Sometimes the right management decision still carries a real sense of loss. Have you ever felt the same about a tree in your area?
