A SUCCESSFUL businesswomen’s networking organisation has opened its first group in Yorkshire – in Bradford.
Unique Ladies met for the first time at Bradford City FC’s Northern Commercial Stadium when a large number of women attended the unusual pay-as-you-go networking group. The new group is run by businesswoman Waheeda Butt and now meets on the last Friday morning of each month.
The organisation was started four years ago by Suzy Orr who wanted a group which did not have expensive membership fees and which provided inspirational speakers.
“What I wanted to offer was an enjoyable networking experience where businesswomen could meet and make effective contact,” explained Mrs Orr.
The format proved an immediate success, passing thousands of pounds worth of business between companies and creating effective business collaborations ever since. After franchising, the Unique model has spread to 15 groups all over Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside.
“Yorkshire seemed the logical next step,” added Mrs Orr, “and we have had a terrific response from local women in Bradford.”
The inaugural speaker was Vicki Culverhouse who shared her story about coping with, and surviving, breast cancer, whilst running a successful telemarketing company. The speaker at the October meeting on the 25th will be Gillian Robson from Tancream who will be recounting how the business found success via Dragon’s Den.
“We would love to see all kinds of businesswomen coming along to the next meeting,” stated Mrs Orr. “We know this kind of networking works because the women who attend keep coming back and telling us so!”
