What are DBS Checks?

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions. Dependent on the level of check your potential employee is eligible for, the DBS will search all relevant records, including Police records, to ensure you are safeguarding yourself and your business and help you to make the right decision when recruiting.

There are a variety of DBS checks available to organisations and these are mainly led by the type of organisation you are and the people you and your employees come into contact with.

The Basic Check

The Basic check was originally set up to prevent unsuitable people from working with certain groups, including children. With the launch of the Basic DBS Check in January 2018, a check can now be made on ANY individual, in ANY industry, which makes it even easier for an employer to be sure about their decision when recruiting.
