We are proud to be part of the Defense Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) here at GGT, which is a government-led initiative that recognizes employers who support the employment of veterans and their families. Through this scheme, we are able to tap into the skills and expertise of veterans, allowing us to benefit from their knowledge and experience.
We firmly believe in supporting veterans and their families by providing them with meaningful employment opportunities. This not only helps them transition into civilian life, but it also helps us gain access to a diverse range of skill-sets that can help our business succeed. We are committed to providing veteran employees with the necessary resources and support they need to thrive in our workplace. We currently employ 20% of our workforce who are veterans and aim to continue supporting those who we can with valuable skills and employment as we recognize the positive impact this sustains.
Supporting the Armed Forces Convergent Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) can have several positive impacts:
1. Veteran Employment: The ERS encourages employers to support and provide employment opportunities for veterans, reservists, and their families. By participating in the scheme, employers demonstrate their commitment to hiring and supporting individuals who have served in the armed forces. This can help veterans transition successfully into civilian life and contribute their skills and experience to the workforce.
2. Skills and Expertise: Service personnel acquire valuable skills and expertise during their time in the armed forces, such as leadership, discipline, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. By recognizing and supporting the ERS, employers gain access to a pool of talented individuals who can bring these unique qualities to their organizations. This helps businesses benefit from the diverse range of skills and perspectives that veterans can offer.
3. Enhanced Reputation: Supporting the ERS showcases an employer's commitment to social responsibility and supporting the armed forces community. It demonstrates a company's dedication to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion, and its recognition of the contributions made by service personnel. This can enhance the employer's reputation among potential customers, clients, and employees who value organizations with strong ethical values.
4. Employee Engagement and Loyalty: Demonstrating support for the armed forces through the ERS can foster a positive work culture and boost employee morale. It shows existing employees that their employer values and respects the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces. This can contribute to increased employee engagement, loyalty, and job satisfaction.
5. Collaboration and Partnerships: Participating in the ERS provides opportunities for collaboration and partnerships with other organizations and stakeholders within the armed forces community. This can lead to mutually beneficial relationships, knowledge sharing, and the exchange of best practices. Employers can also access resources, support networks, and training opportunities offered through the scheme.
Overall, supporting the Armed Forces Convergent Employer Recognition Scheme demonstrates an employer's commitment to supporting veterans, reservists, and their families. It can have a positive impact on employment opportunities, organizational culture, reputation, and collaboration within the armed forces community. By recognizing and valuing the skills and contributions of service personnel, employers contribute to a more inclusive society and help build a stronger workforce.
