Ofgem has just announced the new Energy Price Cap (EPC) for 1 July - 30 September 2023.
A household with 'typical' usage of 12,000 kWh of gas and 2,900 kWh of electricity used in a year will now pay £2,074/year on average for their energy.
But the total amount a household pays will vary by their usage, because the 'cap' is actually a cap on the amount charged per kWh used. So a household using more energy than 'typical' will pay more than the £2,074 headline figure; and a household using less energy would pay less over a year.
So, what are the per kWh figures for the 1 July EPC?
Electricity
£0.30 per KWh
Daily standing charge: £0.53
Gas
£0.08 per KWh
Daily standing charge £0.29
Note, the figures above are UK averages. To see the per kWh and standing charge rates in your area, read our article on the average cost of electricity per kWh.
