Preston-based charity S.E.E.D offer low cost person-centred counselling for those struggling

S.E.E.D (Support and Education for Eating Disorders) has begun to offer low cost person-centred counselling for those struggling due to the second lockdown.

S.E.E.D was founded in 2007 by multi award-winning nurse and social entrepreneur, Shelley Perry. The charity is the only organisation of its kind in Lancashire, providing a network of support for those suffering from eating/food/weight-related issues and their family members, carers and friends affected by this.

During these very challenging and uncertain times, S.E.E.D wants to continue to provide support and encouragement for sufferers by offeringlow cost counselling sessions. These sessions are open to the general public to help with an array of mental health, self-development and eating/food/weight-related issues and are done over Zoom, or in person for those who request it.

One of the charity’s main aims is to make these sessions more accessible for those who are struggling financially at the moment. Therefore, the only cost involved is £15 an hour to cover the cost of the room hire.

Barbra, a S.E.E.D counselling service user who undertook 10 weeks of sessions, comments on the organisation explaining, "It helped me a tremendous amount, I can't tell you. It's something I should have gone to a long time ago."

The service provides talking therapy for individuals who are unsure of where to go and are looking for some support to assist them through their journey at this point in their life. Founder and CEO, Shelley Perry, says “Many carers and parents of clients we have at Breathe Therapies, the treatment arm of S.E.E.D, attend a weekly 1:1 S.E.E.D counselling session to ensure they are supported through their journey as well.”

S.E.E.D has several highly qualified counsellors who are running the service. The organisation also has several student counsellors who are all fit to practise in counselling.

S.E.E.D. strongly believes that people suffering from an eating disorder can get better. With guidance and encouragement, S.E.E.D believes that an individual can grow, develop and flourish.
