National Adoption Week: Celebrating the ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ Homes That Make Adoption Possible

By
This National Adoption Week, Caritas Care is celebrating the perfectly imperfect homes that make adoption possible, with this year’s inspiring campaign lead by You Can Adopt: A Welcome Home.

The campaign aims to encourage more people across Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and South Cumbria to consider adoption, by challenging the myth that you need a ‘perfect’ home to adopt. Because what really matters isn’t the size of your home, but the love, stability, and sense of belonging you can offer a child.

Challenging the Myth of the “Perfect Home”

New research released for National Adoption Week 2025 shows that 86% of adopters once worried they needed the “perfect home” before adopting. But adoption isn’t about having everything in place, it’s about having room in your heart to make a difference in a child’s life.

Whether you live in a flat in Manchester, a terraced house in Preston, a family home in Southport, or a rural village in Cumbria, what truly counts is your ability to offer love, stability, and care.

At Caritas Care, we welcome adopters from all walks of life, single people, couples, families, renters or homeowners. Every home that offers love can be the right home for a child.

Familiar Faces Join the Conversation

This year’s You Can Adopt campaign is supported by well-known voices who share a personal connection to adoption, including:

  • Prue Leith, The Great British Bake Off judge, adoptive mother and grandmother to two adopted children
  • Dilly Carter, TV organiser and adopted person
  • Sanam Harrinanan, Post Adoption Social Worker and former Love Islander
  • Charlie Mackesy, artist and author of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse
Their stories highlight what we already know - that families come in all shapes and sizes and every story is unique.

Why We Need More Adopters

The latest figures in England show a 12% drop in families coming forward to adopt compared to last year, leaving 2,940 children still waiting for a loving home.

Through the A Welcome Home campaign, Caritas Care, along with Adoption agencies across the country are, shining a light on what adoption is truly about - creating a place where a child feels safe, loved, and truly at home.
