Before moving into supported living, Michael lived at home with his mum. Since making the move, he’s built a life that balances independence with the support he needs.

Football is a huge part of Michael’s life. He proudly talks about the trophies and medals he’s won and never misses training on Fridays. He makes his own way there every week getting out and about on his own.

With encouragement from staff, Michael now manages many parts of his daily life himself – from attending appointments and managing his money to travelling independently. Yet he knows that support is always just around the corner if he needs it.

Weekends are for socialising too. Michael likes going to the pub and always makes sure he’s home by 10pm. “I go out every Saturday and Sunday and I’ll come back on the last bus. If I’m late, I ring to let people know,” he explains.

Michael enjoys an active lifestyle, likes having a routine and takes pride in making his own plans. “I like my routine, you know what you do each day,” he says. Football gives him structure, purpose and enjoyment, and he also has a little job gardening in his local community.

Supported living has helped Michael grow in confidence while still feeling secure. “There’s always somebody there,” he says, appreciating the balance that lets him take control of his life while knowing help is available if needed.

Michael encourages others to experience the same opportunities as he’s been fortunate to have, he says, “I would like people to have the same choices, chances and the same independence as I’ve had.”
