BPC UK has a strong commitment
to the environment which means they are always looking for ways to improve
their recycling rates and thanks to investment in their paper recycling, BPC
UK’s waste paper recycling rate is close to 100%. This recycling rate has
been achieved by a little bit of ingenuity, plant investment – and several
hundred metres of extractor piping.
Inevitably, when a paper reel is a slit into rolls – such as till rolls, thermal rolls, transport tickets, or other
paper rolls – on one of the slitting machines, there is a thin trim of paper
left over. What happens to this paper trim?
The trim is fed through a
hydraulic operated extraction system that takes the trim straight from the
machine sends it through a system of pipes above the factory and pumps the
trim into a baling room. In the baling room, it is fed through a baling machine
and packed into bales each of which is approximately 25kg.
The paper bales are then
collected by the recycling plant, de-inked if necessary, and converted into
paper pulp, ready to be made into a variety of recycled paper products.
And it’s not only the paper trim
that is recycled. BPC UK also ensures that any damaged rolls, cardboard
packaging, and other paper-based off-cuts are sent for recycling.
The rationale for recycling is
that it reduces the need to harvest forestland, which supports their
sustainable forestry principles. For every tonne of paper sent for recycling
approximately 2 tonnes of wood are saved.
It is estimated that if half of
the world’s paper was recycled it would avoid the harvesting of 20 million
acres of forestland.
BPC UK’s environmental policies mean
that you can be sure that when you buy your bespoke printed rolls, thermal
paper rolls or 2-ply paper rolls from BPC UK, you are
helping to support sustainable forestry and best practices in waste recycling.
