At Coggin, it is our aim to reduce carbon emissions as much as we can possibly can. We do this with our work in the reuse and recycling of office furniture and are always implementing new processes to make as big a difference as we can.
Currently, there is a large amount of redundant office furniture in the UK and most of this just goes to landfill. When we conduct a removal our aim is to reuse as much of this furniture as we possibly can. We are able to do this as we have the ability to upholster, service & professionally clean office chairs and cut down, re-edge, and retrofit desking. We also have a large site where we can store items until they are ready to go back out onto the market.
The amount of Co2 saved purely from direct reuse might surprise you. We calculated that from a recent removal we conducted in Lancashire they saved over 2,640Kg of C02 from the direct reuse of only 88 items.
When we feel we can't reuse an item we always recycle. This means we break all items down into their individual components, a chair gets broken down into plastic, foam, fabric, and metal. We then separate these and then they can be recycled properly.
Plastics get reused in many ways, amongst a few, 05 plastics get made into new car parts, 07 plastics get made into new chair parts.
Wood gets chipped and made into animal bedding and biofuel.
Foam & Fabric gets made into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), which is a great substitute for fossil fuels such as coal.
Metal is infinitely recyclable and has a huge amount of reuses.
We also help plant 25 trees with every order we receive by partnering with Ecologi. So far in six months, we have helped plant 17,451 trees. This means we have reduced 100.18 tonnes of C02e. This is the equivalent of 248,547 miles driven in a car, which more than counteracts our whole team's commutes to and from work.
Sustainability is something we are very passionate about and we a proud of everything we are doing and feel we are making a positive impact, but we know there is always more that can be done!
