Charity Canoe Challenge - Places now available!

By

Age UK Lancashire has opened up places to their Canoe Challenge for its 6th running year, due to the popularity of the yearly fundraising event. This year the charity has introduced an alternative 12-mile route alongside its regular 25-mile route to appeal to a wider audience.

The event will take place on Saturday 28th March 2020 where participants will begin the journey from the Hand & Dagger Pub in Salwick near Preston and finish at the Waterwitch in Lancaster.

Fundraising Manager, David Ward said: “We always look forward to the Canoe Challenge as it’s the highlight of our fundraising year. Speaking from personal experience the challenge itself is hard but rewarding at the same time, as it gives you a strong sense of achievement and is for a good cause.  We wanted to add a new 12 mile course this time as we feel this give people the chance to take part who might feel 25 miles is too far for them”.

With limited places available and a strong public interest, people who wish to participate are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to secure a place. A minimum of two people per team is required but teams of more than two are also welcome.

David Ward added: “This is a great activity to get involved in with your friends, family or even work colleagues. We have arranged a free practice session on Saturday 14th March to prepare participants for the challenge. Equipment will be provided on challenge day and a support team will be stationed along the route for extra support”.

There is no entry fee for the event.  Each participant must raise a minimum of £125 for the charity, with support setting up fundraising pages and top tips also provided by the fundraising team.  As places are given out on a first-come basis, registering as soon as possible is recommended to avoid disappointment.

All the money raised on the day stays local in Lancashire and goes to Age UK Lancashire, helping to fund services and projects that benefit older people.

Full details and a registration form can be found in the ‘Get Involved’ section of their website at www.ageuklancs.org.uk or by contacting David Ward via phone on 01257 444410 or email on fundraising@ageuklancs.org.uk
