How did you get here?
When I was 18, I started in a consultancy M&E practice and became a senior engineer. I decided to go into teaching, which I did for eight years before returning to industry. This is when I found the position at GLD. I felt they were the perfect match for my skills and that I could make a great contribution to this small but ambitious business.
Since joining the team, what have you been doing?
I have been at GLD for 3.5 years now working as a principal design engineer. I overlook all mechanical design for the company, which includes the design of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing systems.
Talk to us about some of your favourite projects.
My first project that I ran on my own was for Barclays bank in Penrith. I designed a replacement oil fired heating system with new natural gas. I really enjoyed being in charge of the whole process.
The first major project I undertook at GLD was for Chorley New Road Primary School. On this job I worked on the heating, plumbing and ventilation. It’s such a pleasure to see my work now making a difference to children’s everyday lives.
Before working at GLD, my favourite project would have to be designing the Cartier showroom in London. I enjoyed this project due the prestigious name!
At GLD my favourite project so far has been the Midwife Led Unit in Tameside. Although it’s small it was just something a little bit different. It was a complicated job, but I like to be tested.
What do you like most about your job?
I really have a fantastic time at GLD. I love the freedom I have to get on with the engineering design work and I like managing the projects. I hope to help grow the company and I am really eager to expand the team working under me.
