Are you looking for a reason to get out and enjoy the improving weather, or escape the working from home life and recharge your batteries? Well look no further! Local older people's charity Age UK Lancashire are encouraging people to get out and walk, jog or cycle all for a good cause.
35 Miles that Matter is a new fundraising event where individuals and families can sign up and pledge to exercise for 35 miles in March.
The 35 miles represents the 35,000 lonely older people living in Lancashire. Loneliness has a negative impact on a person's physical and mental health so the charity is working hard to raise awareness and funds to enable them to reach these vulnerable people and improve their lives.
David Ward from Age UK Lancashire says: "It's been a tough year and we feel that everyone is feeling the fatigue from long periods of lockdown and isolation. That is why we are encouraging everyone of any ability to get active and improve their own mental and physical health at the same time as helping our cause".
Signing up couldn't be easier, simply visit www.ageuklancs.org.uk and follow the 35 Miles that Matter links. There is no minimum fundraising amount so whether it is £10 or £100 the important thing is to get active and play your part.
David Ward added: "We really rely on the support from local people and businesses to help us support the older population of our county, many of which are vulnerable and isolated. Whatever donations people can raise will really help and all of the money stays right here in Lancashire to directly support our services".
So, what are you waiting for? Get motivated, sign up and get active!
