What is #LightItBlue?
The #LightItBlue campaign was created by the events and entertainment industry. Every Thursday night, hundreds of iconic venues in the UK and around the world are lighting up in blue, as a heartfelt show of thanks to the NHS and all those at the frontline risking their health to help others.
Our Goal
Is to show gratitude, spread positivity and inspire others to use their personal and professional skills to #MakeItBlue in their own way. We aim to turn the internet into a sea of blue, using the hashtag #MakeItBlue. We invite as many people as possible to join us, so all those working in the many frontline services will know just how much they are appreciated.
The Response
By the Campaign’s fourth week, most of the UK’s iconic landmarks had joined in the tribute – and #LightItBlue had gone global. In the USA, buildings coast-to-coast had enthusiastically illuminated blue. Spain, France, the UAE, Malaysia, Japan, Mexico and Canada joined the list of participating countries. From London’s Tower Bridge, to New York’s Empire State Building; from Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi to the Olympic Memorial Tower in Tokyo – the globe is progressively lighting blue on Thursday nights.
We invite you to join this growing movement. To make it easy for you to #LightItBlue we have a campaign model and collateral to share with you.
Our Plan
As the world continues to fight the Covid-19 pandemic in the weeks and months ahead, we will generate weekly lighting displays from national landmarks, sports stadia, bridges, cathedrals and monuments around the world – either as one-time events, or a continued gesture of support.
The Future
#MakeItBlue extends our message into the personal and digital space. People are inspired to add their own version of #MakeItBlue via social media – and that may translate into sport, personal art or craft, music or educational activity. We are encouraging creativity and motivating people to offer their own personal vote of thanks to all the NHS professionals and frontline workers who are dedicated to saving lives and caring for us.
