Formed in August 2006, Engineered Capabilities Ltd. have been providing specialist advice and technical input to UK and European organisations in the public and private sectors in advanced manufacturing technologies, market analysis and strategies for researching and developing and accessing new manufacturing and engineering capabilities.  The service offering has been to fill gaps in clients’ capability or capacity, either extending their knowledge base or in providing a temporary addition to their own team during growth activities.

Dr Calder provides extensive specialist assistance to government through assessment of some £4.5bn of project applications for R&D funding in the last decade and as a monitoring officer for Innovate UK and European Commission, with an ongoing project portfolio generally exceeding £100M, in technology areas as diverse as nickel alloy metallurgy and DNA synthesis.  Main technology areas include advanced composites technologies, additive manufacturing, digital manufacturing – industry 4.0, and sectors including aerospace, automotive and advanced materials processing.
