Wear Rivers Trust: Helping Business to Demonstrate Corporate Social Responsibility to Customers, Staff and other Stakeholders

By

Wear Rivers Trust can support businesses in demonstrating effective Corporate Social Responsibility, setting the context and incorporating Sustainability into company culture, and measuring real progress through practical Environment Social Governance activity.

Employees, customers, shareholders, wider stakeholders expect businesses to understand and implement sustainable business practices which respect each of the 4 CSR pillars.

Environment: Looking after our planet.

Workplace: Looking after our people.

Community: Looking after our neighbourhoods.

Philanthropy: Looking after our Society.

Environment. The River Wear is 60 miles long, source to sea, with a catchment area of 417 square miles. The Trust works across the whole catchment to improve and restore soil health water quality and biodiversity. In this example volunteers are using natural materials to stabilise the eroding riverbank. Sediment discharge reduces the ability of fish to spawn.

Workplace. Wear Rivers Trust can provide river experience days, delivering real environmental  benefits in an enjoyable atmosphere. Employees enjoy a practical team building experience and the satisfaction of making a real positive difference Working on a group project outside the normal work environment is known to benefit morale, motivation, productivity and retention. Blue skies not guaranteed!

Community. Wear Rivers Trust works with other community organisations across the catchment, providing technical expertise and support for local people to protect and improve their environment where they live. In this example citizen scientists are collecting data on fish species, numbers and age classes.

Philanthropy. Wear Rivers Trust works to the benefit of society to address global challenges: carbon capture & storage, climate change, water quality, drought resilience, biodiversity loss, public access to nature, at the local scale with local action through local communities. This example shows a local rugby club repairing erosion around a footbridge.
