Thanks to a generous legacy from artists and biologists Michael and Eileen Scott, the Scott Creative Arts Foundation was founded by Sue Armstrong as a registered charity in 2016.

The Foundation, currently based in Thirsk has two main aims:

1.   To provide a creative platform for emerging artists in Yorkshire
2.   To engage the public, particularly local rural communities in both the creative arts and the living landscape.

This is currently achieved through an annual Emerging Artist Award and a creative and evolving community garden. Plus, a number of initiatives and partnerships that bring art and the landscape together as a cohesive, immersive experience for the communities of Yorkshire.

To further engage with both artists and communities, the creative ambition for the future sustainability of the organisation includes the development of an existing building to create a permanent gallery and workshop space. Together with the creation of an inspiring medicinal and healing garden where art and nature merge, blurring the boundaries and celebrating the individual disciplines, each with multiple purpose. Be that food production, artist materials, botanical history or healing though plants.

The potential is wide ranging, with the capacity to develop into a thriving community and regional multi disciplined Hub with art, community and living landscape at the centre.
