The first weekend in July saw the main Atrium area in Theodore House converted into what looked like a thriving workshop of enthusiastic spinners, weavers and dyers. Over the weekend of 7th - 9th July, Theodore House was the proud venue, now for the third year running, for this annual gathering of a group of very passionate ladies and gentleman from various guilds of weavers, spinners and dyers namely Bradford, York, Craven, Fylde Heddles & Treadles, Bowland and the Online Guild.
The time spent at Theodore House was occupied mostly with busy hands using spinning wheels, spindles, looms and lots of wool. There was plenty of interesting chatter about this important aspect of their lives, constant laughter, as well as the occasional time away relaxing on the outdoor terrace enjoying the superb weather, or the occasional walk around the idyllic Stonyhurst Estate… and why not, even the odd drink in the evening to complete the mood of lasting friendship and enjoyment amongst friends who share a common passion.
The 26 strong group all stayed in the ensuite bedrooms at Theodore House and were joined by a local non-resident guest who participated each day as part of the group. With breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as tea/coffee and biscuit breaks being the package that this returning group decided upon, it was only the energy, expertise, knowledge and craftsmanship of the many exquisite finished articles from this amazing group that wasn’t supplied by Theodore House and its team to ensure they all had a memorable time.
Ann Falkingham, the group organiser said, “we have had another brilliant weekend, the venue is fantastic with such excellent facilities. The central atrium filled with natural light is ideal for our activities and sitting in the garden spinning is idyllic. Ever since our first visit the staff have been so welcoming, helpful and very willing to cater for all our requirements. The food was excellent and was highly commended by the vegetarians amongst us.We’re all looking forward to next year’s event”
So successful is this annual gathering of talented artisans, that the group has already booked for 2024 with Theodore House, and more than half of the guests had already paid their deposit for the 2024 event to the group organiser whilst still on this year’s stay.
At Theodore House, we are delighted that the amazing spinners, weavers and dyers consider us as a preferred venue for their important annual gathering. We cannot wait to have them back next year.
