Social anxiety has been on the rise in the UK, especially after we came out of lockdown and is becoming and increasing challenge within our workplaces.

In fact over 8 million people in the UK experience social anxiety disorder at some point in their lives.

But what is social anxiety?

Social anxiety disorder, also called social phobia, is a long-term and overwhelming fear of social situations. It's a common problem that usually starts during the teenage years. It can be very distressing and have a big impact on your life. For some people it gets better as they get older. (NHS).

Symptoms of Social anxiety include:

? You worry about everyday situations, such as meeting strangers, starting conversations or speaking on the phone.

? You avoid or worry a lot about social activities.

? You always worry about doing something you think is embarrassing, such as blushing, sweating or appearing incompetent.

? You find it difficult to do things when others are watching

? You fear being criticised.

? You often have symptoms like feeling sick, sweating, trembling or a pounding heartbeat.

? You have panic attacks, where you have an overwhelming sense of fear and anxiety.
