Elektec have gifted all primary schools in Blackburn with
Darwen with copies of the storybook “When I Grow Up”, written by Richard
Smith.
‘When I Grow Up’ follows twins Harry and Amy who are considering their future professions as part of their school careers day competition. The story covers a range of engineering activities and demonstrates to children that without the hard work of those in the construction industry, many other jobs would not be possible.
The storybook gives an engaging introduction to the industry at a young age, recognising the importance of inspiring future generations now, to propel the industry forward.
Co owner of Elektec, Charlotte Knowles, said:
“Upon hearing about this book and eventually reading it, I was amazed and in awe of Richard Smith. His vision, to educate and encourage children to understand the importance of construction sectors and hopefully, consider construction and STEM careers, is encapsulated so well.
I am personally very passionate about promoting construction careers and encouraging more females to enter the industry. Elektec have decided to gift copies of this book to every primary school in Blackburn with Darwen to assist Richard Smith in achieving his vision and inspiring the future generation.
Thank you to Richard and The Rt Hon Jake Berry MP for supporting Elektec in making this happen”
The Rt Hon Jake Berry MP said:
“It was an absolute pleasure to visit Elektec and find out more about this successful business in Darwen. As a father with three young children myself it was inspiring to see how the whole family have been involved with building the business.
I’ve always been a huge supporter of encouraging youngsters to consider careers in construction, technology and engineering, so I was delighted to learn about the ‘When I Grow Up’ book which I am sure will help inspire many children across Blackburn with Darwen – thank you to Elektec for making this happen.”
Author Richard Smith said:
“Im delighted to see Elektec taking ‘When I Grow Up’ across all the primary schools in their region. The aim of the whole story is to inspire as many children as possible and this is exactly what the team at Elektec are doing here. The initiative is open to all individuals and businesses so please get in touch or visit our website to get involved”.
As well as gifting the books, Elektec’s co-owner, Charlotte Knowles, has offered to visit every Primary School in the Borough to talk to pupils about the book as well construction careers.
