Objectives of Fund

The fund supports the development of innovative products, activities and research projects that will contribute to make the chemical sciences community more inclusive and diverse.

Value Notes

Grants of up to £5,000 can be made. Funding greater than £5,000 may be considered for one project each year.

Who Can Apply

The scheme is open to both RSC members and non-members based in the UK or Ireland.

Eligible applicants can apply either as individuals or on behalf of an organisation. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Member-led groups
  • Researchers in academia or industry
  • Museums
  • Community groups
  • Not-for-profit organisations
  • Arts groups and libraries
Previous recipients of any RSC grants are welcome to apply for funding. This can be to scale-up a project that already exists or to fund the development of an original project.

Restrictions

The fund does not support:

  • Chemistry research projects, even if led by individuals from underrepresented groups.
  • General outreach initiatives that are not directly linked to inclusion and diversity in the chemical sciences.
  • Projects that do not demonstrate a clear, measurable benefit to inclusion, accessibility, or diversity within the chemical sciences.
  • Projects whose primary aim is to generate a financial surplus.
  • Projects for which the Society's support would not significantly enhance the activity.
  • Projects that are part of an education institution's usual programme of activities, including Open Days and Taster Days.
  • Costs of general purpose hardware, apparatus or equipment.
  • Employment costs of project staff that receive a salary from the applying organisation.
Eligible Expenditure

The fund will support projects focused on inclusion and diversity issues in the chemical sciences. 

How To Apply

Applications must be submitted online. There are two application windows each year:

  • Round one: applications must be submitted between 24 March 2025 and 5 May 2025.
  • Round two: applications must be submitted between 28 July 2025 and 15 September 2025.
