'2019: THE YEAR OF DIGITAL'
Chorley’s Annual Business Network Event takes place on Thursday 11 July 2019 with a local panel of digital and technology experts already confirmed. We are delighted to announce that our key note speaker for the evening will be Maggie Philbin, OBE.
Our host for the evening will once again be Dave Guest, Chief Reporter for BBC North West News.
Dave has been the Chief Reporter at North West Tonight since 2006, having previously covered education and social affairs.
Dave will facilitate a ‘Question Time’ Digital Panel featuring the following key players in the local and digital spaces:
- Cllr Alistair Bradley, Executive Leader, Chorley Council
- Jeremy Coates, Founder & CEO, Magma Digital and Director, Digital Lancashire
- Liz Hardwick, Co-Founder, DigiEnable
- Martin Rothwell, Senior Lecturer in Digital and Technology Solutions, University of Central Lancashire
Our keynote speaker for the evening will be Maggie Philbin, OBE. Maggie Philbin has worked in radio and television for over 30 years on a wide range of science, medical and technology programmes.
Maggie is President of the Institute of Engineering Designers and co-founder and CEO of the multi-award winning TeenTech CIC.
TeenTech help young people understand opportunities in the science, technology and engineering industries, no matter what their gender or social background.
TeenTech support schools, companies, councils, colleges and universities, providing them with strategies of engagement and ways to develop approaches which work well with young people. It works face to face with over 10,000 young people every year and reach many thousands more through its resources.
Maggie has a unique resonance with audiences, having grown up with them on much loved shows like BBC’s Swap Shop and Tomorrow’s World. Many of the everyday gadgets we now take for granted were demonstrated on live television for the very first time by Maggie – the first truly mobile phone, the first car navigation system, the first fax machine, even the first supermarket barcode reader. Additionally, Maggie’s extensive radio and television career has also included working with ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
Maggie will share her unique and insightful perspective on technology, diversity, innovation and all things digital.
